HOW TO PAINT A CHEVRON WALL
STEP ONE – PREP WORK
Lay the floor under your work area with the Hamilton’s Supa Soaka to prevent spillage and damage to your floors.
STEP TWO – PRIME
Prime the wall with Plascon Multi-surface Primer.
Apply two coats to ensure an even base for your topcoats.
TOP TIP: Never skip on the primer – a primer serves to seal the substrate, hide joints and seams and provide a consistent surface for your topcoat.
- Open the primer and remember to mix it thoroughly before application.
- Pour your primer into your paint tray and start applying primer to your cleaned floor from the innermost corner.
- Use your Hamilton’s Velour Mini Roller to apply primer to the smaller edges and surfaces.
- Use your Hamilton’s Professional Paint Brush to get into the hard-to-reach corners.
- Remember to use your Supa-Soaka absorbent fleece mat to prevent drips of paint from marking other surfaces.
- Make sure all your surfaces are properly coated before moving on to the next step.
- Allow your primer to dry for 24 to 48 hours before applying the topcoat.
TOP TIP: Cover your Paint Tray with a plastic bag for easy clean-up and second use with other paint!
TOP TIP: Start with cutting in – cutting in is when you apply a thin border of paint along the sides of the wall, the skirting and the ceiling.
Once cutting in is done, dip your roller into the tray and coat the surface of the wall. Allow proper drying times between coats.

Free-hand paint your chevrons, keeping an equal distance between them.
Once you’ve finished painting your chevrons allow the paint to dry and then remove the masking tape.
This will leave crisp lines and edges on each chevron, which really gives structure to this very abstract, hand-painted pattern. It looks like wallpaper and gives a beautiful, striking feature wall (for a fraction of the cost of wallpaper!).
Elle used two different finishes for this project – Matt paint for the background and sheen paint for the chevron lines, giving the look for texture and depth.
