Plascon Stoep Paint

When it comes to giving your outdoor spaces a facelift, most people start with the garden or the furniture. But hey – what about the stoep? That’s your welcome mat to the world. And if it’s dull, cracked, or faded, it sets the wrong tone before guests even ring the bell. Enter Plascon Stoep Paint – the superhero of outdoor makeovers!

Why Stoep Paint Deserves a Spotlight

The underestimated hero of outdoor paint

Let’s be honest, we often overlook the floor beneath our feet. We focus on walls and ceilings, forgetting that our stoep (or porch, patio, veranda – you get the vibe) has to deal with foot traffic, weather changes, and general wear-and-tear. Stoep paint isn’t just there to look pretty – it’s functional, protective, and makes a statement.

First impressions start at your doorstep

Your stoep is like your home’s handshake. Crisp, clean, and well-painted? It whispers, “Come in, friend.”  Scuffed and faded? Not so much. A freshly painted stoep gives your entire exterior an instant glow-up.

Meet Plascon Stoep Paint – Tough Stuff in a Tin

What makes it different?

Plascon Stoep Paint is specially formulated to withstand high traffic, sunlight, and rain. It’s got that glossy, ultra-tough finish that doesn’t just survive the outdoors, it thrives.

Built for South African weather

Sun blazing one moment, a downpour the next – sound familiar? Plascon stoep paint is made for exactly that. It’s alkali-resistant and water-resistant, so it won’t flake, crack or peel when the elements come knocking.

Colour Your World: The Vibe Factor

Bring personality to your patio

Why settle for plain grey when you can go bold? Plascon’s stoep colour range includes the classic red, green and black, as well as rich terracotta, a soft neutral grey, and even a trendy Light Grey. Whether you’re aiming for laid-back rustic or chic urban, there’s a shade for you.

Bold hues vs. classic tones

Bright colours make a space feel alive – perfect for sunny braai zones or playful play areas. Classic tones, on the other hand, offer timeless charm and work wonders with natural stone or timber features.

Don’t be afraid to go vibrant

This isn’t your grandma’s stoep paint (no offence to grandma). Today’s formulations mean you can experiment with colour without worrying about fading, flaking, or fast re-dos.

Green Stoep Paint

Application Made Simple – No Pro Needed

Painting your stoep, patio or veranda? You can totally DIY it. But – and this is important – the key to a long-lasting finish is proper surface preparation. Here’s how to do it right.

Prepping your surface like a boss

Whether it’s new or previously painted, you need a clean, dry, cured surface with less than 5% moisture (measured with a Doser Hygrometer BD4 or similar). Let’s break it down:

For new concrete and cement floors:

  • Allow it to cure for at least 4 weeks.
  • Clean off all polish, grease, oil, adhesive, and other gunk with Plascon Aquasolv Degreaser (GR 1).
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water. No slippery surfaces allowed – aim for a “water break-free” surface.

Wood-floated concrete floors:

  • Grind down high points with a carborundum block.
  • Vacuum the dust off thoroughly.

Steel-floated floors:

  • Roughen smooth areas and remove any cement laitance using abrasive blasting or carborundum grinding.
  • Vacuum again—you want zero dust left behind.

Previously painted surfaces

If the paint’s still solid:

  • Remove any loose or flaking bits.
  • Clean with Aquasolv Degreaser, rinse well, then sand the remaining paint to a matt finish.

If it’s in poor condition:

  • Strip it all off and treat it as new work.

Tools of the trade

You’ll need:

Hamilton’s Floor sanding roll

Hamilton’s Roller Trayset

Hamilton’s Utility Brush

Painter’s tape and drop sheet. If spraying, thin the paint as recommended.

Quick drying, quicker gratification

Thin your first coat for better penetration. Apply with a brush or roller. Once dry, apply your second coat un-thinned for solid coverage. For added gloss, you can even apply a clear polish after the enamel has fully dried.

Touch dry                            4 h @ 23 °C

Overcoating                      16 h @ 23 °C

Dry to handle                    16 h @ 23 °C

Where You Can Use Plascon Stoep Paint

  • Outdoor landings
  • Paving slabs

Popular surfaces that love it

It bonds like a champ to well-prepped concrete, cement, and smooth screeds. Just keep it off uncured or damp surfaces – it won’t end well.

Cautions and Common-Sense Reminders

We’ve got to get real for a second. Some important do’s and don’ts:

DON’T paint uncured concrete – it must cure for 4 weeks minimum.

Check moisture content of the substrate – it should be under 5%.

Make sure your surface has damp proofing – no shortcuts.

Match your batch numbers to ensure colour consistency.

Store paint away from heat and sparks – it’s flammable.

Keep paint away from kids and pets, and always ensure proper ventilation.

Got paint on your skin? Wash it off ASAP. Got it in your eyes or swallowed? Get medical help, stat. And no smoking while painting, please!
